A little bit of heaven on earth

We all picture heaven as being in the clouds and with an abundance of great coffee, right? If so, you can get a taste of heaven at Munduk Moding Plantation Resort and Spa. On arrival you are greeted with a garland of flowers as you are introduced to wear you are staying. The rooms are nestled away into private well designed nuks within the coffee plantations and spice gardens.
As day guests you can still connect with and fall in love with the plantation. As we explored the vegetable and spice gardens from which they make most of their food we felt that deep reminder of what it is to live in harmony with nature. A little bit of heaven on earth
These divine dishes were by far the most impressively decadent of our trip to Bali. We indulged in a Balinese seafood Kari Ikan and Timbugan Be Siap chicken both served with locally grown rice and salad.
A few things you may not have known about coffee…

The coffee plant is technically a shrub and not only does it grow what is referred to as the coffee cherry which is later processed in a variety of ways, but it also sprouts delightful fragrant white flowers. It is predominantly the processing that leads to the distinctive variety of flavors and aromas. The majority of commercial coffee comes from three main plants which are Arabica, Robusta and Liberica. Here in Munduk, they work with Robusta and Arabica; the latter being the world’s most popular choice of beans for specialty coffees. To learn more about Coffee, well you will just have to visit Munduk …

Exploring the coffee plantations and learning about how it is grown and roasted to perfection seemed to enhance the taste of the coffee we sampled. Perhaps it was my imagination or perhaps knowledge truly is power! Not only do they grow their own coffee, but they work with local farmers to produce fox fermented coffee, yep an impressively smooth poop coffee that goes by the local name Kopi Luwak. Fermentation coffee has really taken off in recent years, with weasels and monkeys rocketing to coffee poop fame. You can find out more about the process HERE
Kopi Luwak is shockingly expensive, (especially considering it poop!) but if you’re a coffee lover, it really is worth trying it at least once! You can even by it on Amazon these days!
If you know me, you know I LOVE my Lattes. I did the cultured bit and genuinely enjoyed tasting the range of coffees, but, for me, nothing beats a creamy latte made with great beans. A little bit of heaven on earth
