If your itinerary allows Pyin Oo Lwin / Pyin U Lwin (pronounced Pin “Oo Loo-win”) is a nice town to spend a day or two in. There are lots of great things to do in the area. Pyin Oo Lwin is between Mandalay and Hsipaw so you might consider a visit if you are on your way to Hsipaw. There is a good range of accommodation available here. You get less for your money compared to Mandalay and Hsipaw. The main road running through Pyin Oo Lwin is called the Mandalay-Lashio road or highway 3.

Directions: Grace Hotel II is centrally located. It is on the Mandalay-Lashio main road close to the clock tower. From the clock tower walk for 1 minute in the Mandalay direction and Grace II is on the right.There is also a Grace Hotel I on Nann Myaing road but it is more expensive.

All rooms are fan rooms, but the climate is not as hot due to the altitude. The hotel includes breakfast and free WiFi.

Single price (still a double room) 12,000Ks ($10 or £7).

Double room, 2 people for 19,200Ks ($16 or £11).

Triple room 28,800Ks ($24 or £17)

Directions: Golden dream is very close to Grace II hotel. If you step out of Grace II hostel, Golden Dream is a few doors down the road to the left.

This is the cheapest place in town and it is very basic. You may see large cockroaches and most things are dirty. The bedding is clean. The staff speak very little English. There doesn’t seem to be any flexibility on price. They have a range of rooms some with air conditioning and hot water. The only reason we would recommend this place is if you are on a very low budget.

They charge 12,000Ks ($10 or £7) for 2 people sharing a fan room, shared bathroom and 6,000Ks ($5 or £3.50) for for a solo traveller.

Directions: From the clock tower walk down the Mandalay-Lashio road in the Lashio direction. Bravo Hotel is a 3 minute walk on the right.

This is actually a nice hotel (many places in Myanmar call themselves hotels and are really very basic). Bravo Hotel includes breakfast, A.C. rooms, WiFi, TV and fridge.
