If you have trekked from Kalaw to Inle Lake, Nyaung Shwe (Pronounced “Noo-wang Shooway”) will be your final destination. Nyaung Shwe is a town next to Inle lake and there is plenty to do in the area. There is also plenty of accommodation around town so it is easy to find places on arrival. Nyaung Shwe is a relatively expensive town, but you can still find cheap rooms if you search. Best budget places to stay at Inle Lake Myanmar

Sin Yaw Guest House

This guest house is on Parami street. After the Kalaw-Inle trek you will probably be dropped off by a boat at the end of Phaung Daw Pyan road. Walk approximately 0.5km down Phaung Daw Pyan road away from the river. Take the first right. Walk a short distance and take the first right again. The guest house is on the right. This is a small friendly guest house with a good range of accommodation to meet your needs.

10,000Ks ($8 or £6) for a basic double fan room not including breakfast. 15,000Ks ($12.50 or £9) to include breakfast for two people. Shared bathrooms with only cold water. Solo travellers 5,000Ks ($4 or £3) or 7,500Ks ($6 or £4) including breakfast. In high season add 2,000-3,000Ks. Double rooms with a private bathroom are available for 20,000Ks-25,000Ks ($17-$20 or £12-£14).

The White Avenue 2, Kantar Motel

Directions: Kann Nar road runs next to the river on the east bank. After the Kalaw-Inle trek you will probably be dropped off by a boat at the end of Phaung Daw Pyan road. Follow Kann Bar road up to the left until you get to the bridge where Yone Gyi road crosses the river. Do not cross the bridge, instead turn right and walk 5 minutes up Yone Gyi road. The White Avenue 2 is on the left.

This is a lovely little guest house with nice rooms. In low season a double, ensuite, fan room without breakfast can be agreed for 12,000Ks ($10 or £7). They may start at a higher price, but try bartering. This is a fixed room price and there is no discount for solo travellers. They currently use the wifi of the neighbouring tour agency who seem to be fine with this. It does mean you may not have wifi all the time.

Top Pick: Gypsy Inn

Directions: Kann Nar road runs next to the river on the east bank. After the Kalaw-Inle trek you will probably be dropped off by a boat at the end of Phaung Daw Pyan road. Follow Kann Bar road up to the left. The Gypsy Inn is not far on the right.

In spite of a rather ominous name this place is actually quite nice. It has the feel of a hotel rather than a guest house, and you get quite a good room for the money, especially in low season.

A twin fan room will set you back 14,400Ks ($12 or £8.50) with a shared bathroom with hot water. The same room costs 18,000Ks ($15 or £11) in high season. There are A.C. rooms for 30,000Ks ($25 or £18). There is also a dormitory for 7,200Ks ($6 or £4).

WiFi is included but only available in the reception area. A European style breakfast is included (I didn’t try this so please don’t yell at me if it is an odd Asian interpretation of European breakfast)

Richland Motel & Restaurant

Directions: After the Kalaw-Inle trek you will probably be dropped off by a boat at the end of Phaung Daw Pyan road. Walk along straigh ahead along Phaung Daw Pyan road for around 5-10 minutes. Take the left turn before you get river. Follow this road for 3 blocks and Richland Motel and restaurant should be in front of you and to the left on the corner.

If your budget is a bit bigger this is a great place to stay. It has a nice vibe and has a roof terrace bar and restaurant.

24,000Ks ($20 or £14) for a double ensuite A.C. room with hot water.

A solo traveller can take a fan room for 12,000Ks ($10 or £7) or 14,400Ks ($12 or £8.50) for an A.C. room
