Why it’s Awesome
For backpackers, the Funky Flash Packer is THE place to be! New build, great vibe, great way to meet people, gorgeous swimming pool, well designed, there is always something going on in the hosel, they’re always organising tours to the temples so you can explore with like minded backpackers. This place is colourful, clean well located, a whole load fun, games and funkyness! Dorms start at 5 USD and they have some very stylish luxury rooms at around 22 USD.
The less awesome bit
It is a bit of a party hostel, which is exactly why some will love it and some will avoid it.

Why It’s Awesome
Originality! The Pod Capsule experience is one of those things that you should try and do whilst travelling in Asia. You get your own little sanctuary to escape to when you have had too much of the crazy bustle and dust of Cambodia. It also has a gorgeous communal areas to relax in and meet more chilled out people. It gets excellent reviews for good reason. Starting at around 10 USD each, it is a unique experience that you can only get in a limited number of places. Oh and it’s clean, with friendly staff and is well located, near the night markets.
The less awesome bit
If you book the big budget dorms, just know that the bathrooms can be one between 10. Oh and if your clautraphopic, it’s maybe not the place for you !?

Why It’s Awesome
This is such a classic South East Asian beauty of a hotel. For so little money you start to get a real hotel luxury feel. The sweet little garden, beautiful pool and clean stylish bedrooms make you feel you are staying somewhere so much nice than anywhere 24 USD could get you in the world. The friendly staff will ensure you have a restful stay and location is a great balance of close enough to the town, but not so close it’s manic.
The less awesome bit
If you get your expectations up a little too high and start expecting the ritz, you may be a little disappointed… BUT if you remember this is still Cambodia and you are paying the price of one dorm bed in Australia or western Europe, then you will surely be besotted at what you are getting for your money.

Why it’s Awesome
THIS is my personal favourite by far! The reviews are great for a reason. We used to visit the spa, gym and pool quite a bit when we lived here and it just beautiful! The breakfast is a great mix of east meets west and the staff are delightfully friendly. It really is quite a grand place to arrive at and explore. I find it unbelievable that they often have deals where the rooms start at 60 USD! It really is quite unbelievable for the price!
The less awesome bit
The only downside is that like many of the big resorts it is further out of town and you will need to use tuk tuks, but the hotel know that are well set up for it. If you are staying a while and want to be savvy with money you could even get a drivers number after your first day in town and agree a rate with them if you don’t like the hotel driver rates.
Hanumanalaya Boutique Residence

Why it’s Awesome!
It has an authentic Cambodian feel, dark wood, lush textiles with splashes of bright bold beautiful colours. The beautiful pool and gardens make it a peaceful sanctuary to wander around. They spa, hot tub and steam room make you feel like you can truly retreating to somewhere luxurious. Many of the suites include beautiful bathtubs of your own. Hanumanalaya also often have these flash sales on their rooms a lot of the time, sometimes they are as little as 80 USD
The less awesome bit
Overall people seem to love this place, but it has had a few mixed reviews as in parts you can still tell it is designed and managed by Cambodians, so it can lack some of the finer details you may be used to in high end hotels, so perhaps only go to this one when the rooms are discounted.

Why it’s Awesome
Welcome drink, airport transfers, lush rooms, great location, sensual spa, a beautiful swimming pool and the often have great offers on. The staff are helpful and will do everything they can to make sure you have a well organised and relaxing stay. At full price, the rooms are hundreds of dollars, but every so often they do flash deals where you can get a stunning room for under 100 USD!

Erm… erm, you’ve got me stumped here, I guess just that the rooms are not always on offer.
Borei Angkor Resort & Spa

Why its Awesome
Borei Angkor have been building up a great reputation steadily over the years. They have both an indoor and an enormous outdoor swimming pool to compliment the gorgeous spa facilities, poolside bar and coffee shop. They are within 3 kms of the golf course and happy to arrange getting you there. They do of course include breakfast and airport transfers to ensure a stress free stay. They are a bigger complex so have a large range in rooms that tend to always be on sale, ranging from 100 USD for a standard, through to 500 USD for their Royal Suite. There Landmark room is worth checking out for special occasions….
The less awesome bit
…I guess the pool is so big, you could get lost in it!? Like a few of the much bigger resorts, they are built on the outskirts of the hustle and bustle, which some find to be a plus as it is more peaceful, but others dislike as they prefer to be within walking distance of the town centre. You can get tuk tuks everywhere, so you won’t feel isolated.
Mane Boutique Hotel and Spa

Why it’s Awesome
With the lush gardens, pool and spa and afternoon tea to relax into, Mane Boutique is one of the most tranquil boutique hostels you will find in Siem Reap. If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or just the fact that life is awesome and you can afford to live like a king (or queen!) in Cambodia, then check out suites and packages to create a dream hotel and spa experience you won’t forget.
The less awesome bit
Blank… The only thing to make you think twice about booking here is the price tag, but with so much character from art deco rooms right down to the bamboo bicycles rental, it’s a place that if you can afford to enjoy, you should.
A note about money,
For a lot of people Agoda is a great option for booking accommodation because it is paid in advance, so less stress on arrival AND it will be paid in your local currency, so it saves you on exchange charges. For all other spending, such as meals and buying from the markets you are best using cash from the local ATM’s. Make sure you choose a bank in your home country that doesn’t charge for withdrawals abroad. The ATM’s in Cambodia dispense USD, you only tend to get Cambodian Riel form smaller shops.
