The subterranean spectacle was hosted in the entrance cavern, the largest cave entrance in Britain. Estimated at over 100 million years old, Peak Cavern makes Britain’s oldest cathedrals seem like they were built yesterday. This natural limestone cavern is part of a larger network that extends deep into the bowels of the hill. The anatomical metaphors don’t stop at the bowels. Peak cavern is affectionately known as “The Devil’s Arse”. This charming name comes from the flatulent sound that can be heard when flood water drains from the cave. In contrast the sound of the brass band was epic- the limestone chamber creates an amazing echoey acoustic.
On arrival we were greeted by warm friendly staff, with mulled wine and mince pies. For our non-English readers, mulled wine is warm red wine with spices and orange. The Brass band play many Christmas favourites- both modern songs and traditional carols. Best of all, the audience are enthusiastically involved in the signing. The mixture of humour and energy makes this the perfect festive fun in the run up to Christmas.

Peak Cavern is situated in Castleton in the Peak District and is around 30-45 minutes drive from Sheffield or around 1 hour drive from Manchester.
