Postcards from Myanmar

Been meaning to send you a few post cards from our adventures…

Myanmar photography tour guide to travelling burma. Inspirational travel photos of Myanmar Globmad

We entered Myanmar by hitching to the border from Thailand. As soon as we crossed over and began to explore, we new we were stepping to somewhere profoundly unique. We made our way to Hpa An where we began exploring ancient caves and climbing rugged mountains. Climbing Mt.Zwegbin to sleep at the top in a monastery was one of my all time travel highlights. Myanmar photography tour

We then took and overnight bus all the way upto Mandalay where we explored the old part of the city and went to see the iconic U Bein Bridge. Myanmar photography tour

From here we took an open air truck up into the Shan state area to explore the mountains and waterfalls.  Very few people stop in Pyin oo Lwin, yet it has so much to offer if you are just willing to explore.  We loved meeting the locals selling tasty treats on the streets. I still can’t get over the way in which they all wear such huge colourful paint patterns on their faces.

We took a step even further back in time as we headed into Hsipaw for a trek we will never forget. Hsipaw is in the centre of a conflict zone, but you really wouldn’t know it. We have written a blog on the safety of this area for anyone thinking of going. They are eager to host people and it is a lot safer than it sounds.

Another overnight bus journey later and we rocked up in Kalaw, which is the sleepy little town where we began an epic 3 day trek all the way to Inle Lake. We quite rolled off the bus at 6am and we were trekking by 8am … this is how we roll!

Now the one place you have probably heard of in Myanmar is Bagan. Old Bagan is like no other place on earth, you can spend days explore seemingly endless and fascinating temples, here are a few of our favourite shots from our time there.

First Time in Myanmar ??

Myanmar is changing rapidly, so up-to-date blogs (like this one, ahem!) will be a great source.  But If it’s you’re first time visiting Myanmar you will probably want to grab a travel guide too. I always think you don’t need more than a Rough Guide‘ as it is about making it your own adventure! They have a pretty cheap kindle copy as well as the actual book.
