Amazing lakes and waterfalls in Myanmar Burma

1. Dee Doke waterfalls, Pyin U Lwin

For a beautiful, unique and truly surreal experience take a trip to Dee Doke waterfalls. The mineral-rich water in the pools have an intense blue colour. It is the perfect place to take a refreshing dip in …. Continue trekking up the valley and there is cave to explore as well. At present you are very unlikely to see any other backpackers or tourists here, but it is a popular spot for locals to relax and swim. 2. Inle Lake

No blog on lakes in Myanmar would be complete without mentioning Inle Lake. Inle Lake is one of the most popular places for travellers in Myanmar, and after my visit I could see why! Take a boat ride through the floating villages and witness a truly beautiful way of life. You may also see locals out on the lake using traditional fishing methods.  

3. Anisakan waterfall, Pyin U Lwin

This breathtaking waterfall is around 120m high. To put this into perspective, the puny niagara falls are only around 50m high. I normally love to take a dip in the plunge pool at the bottom of waterfalls- but to be honest the idea of swimming here just terrified me. 4. Kan Thar Yar lake, Hpa An

This gorgeous lake is a beautiful viewpoint to see the majestic Mount Zwegabin. The best time to enjoy this lovely lake is at sunrise and early morning where you will witness locals fishing, exercising and enjoying the beautiful atmosphere. It is also conveniently close to Hpa An being only a 15 minute walk from the town centre.

5. Nam Tok waterfall, Hsipaw

A trip to Nam Tuk waterfall is a MUST DO if you are staying in Hsipaw. The journey to the waterfall is all part of the fun and most of the trail can be done by bicycle. You can also swim in the refreshing pool at the bottom of the waterfall- float on your back to get the most exhilarating view you could hope for.

6. Taung Tha Man Lake, Mandalay

U Bein Bridge bridge (Alternative spelling: U Beng bridge) is the main feature that attracts people to this lake and to be honest I can see why. Seeing the sunset behind U Bein bridge is genuinely idyllic. If you take the bus to Taung Tha Man lake, you will also get to walk through the villages around the lake and take in the lovely atmosphere.  

7. Nam Hoo Nwae waterfall, Hsipaw

Nam Hoo Nwae is slightly further away from Hsipaw than Nam Tuk waterfalls. It is also not as tall. It is definitely worth a visit if you have the time. There is not a pool to swim in, but I was able to take a much needed shower in the waterfall. Amazing lakes and waterfalls in Myanmar Burma

8. Kyauk Kalap Monastery lake, Hpa An

This lovely lake has the beautiful backdrop of steep jungle covered hills. There is a very quirky monastery perched on a rock formation in the middle of the lake. Visitors are welcome to climb part way up the rock to see the monastery. If you want to explore the monastery remember to bring some long trousers and something to cover your shoulders.
